I've always wanted to make a difference.

I felt compelled to come on here and tell you about this soul-felt clarity that I just experienced in my meditation this morning.

I’ve been wanting to breathe some element of healing back into my service to my clients. I used to be a massage therapist and a Reiki practitioner, and I felt such peace and fulfillment and soul connection when I worked with my clients. I was always grounded before I began my work and I created a sacred space for each client, so that we could co-create their healing.

When I work with authors, I haven’t felt that grounded sense of soul-fed fulfillment. I love talking about story structure, and helping my writing community build beautiful books, especially ones where their own story can take center stage. And where they might learn things about themselves in the process of writing their story that they didn’t know before.

I’ve been wondering how to bring that same mission to my current work.

In my meditation this morning, I reconnected with my mission. Understood it more clearly for the first time. I want to show authors how to connect to their selfiest self. To write the book that is on their heart no matter the genre. I want to invite authors to a safe space of self healing so that there are more truth-tellers connected to their own truth in the world.

And when a person can get to that place, everything that comes from that centered and grounded and truthful place—whether it is interacting with your children or your partner, or tending to home and hearth, or parenting your inner child, or writing the novel you’ve been dreaming of since you were ten years old, or reconnecting with a long lost friend, those interactions will be deeper and more meaningful and more peaceful, and the world will benefit from that peaceful interaction, and that will ripple out to the people that they interact with after they’re done interacting with you.

I think that the more people there are on the planet that can really embody an inner peace, whatever that means to each individual, as long as they fully connect and tether to that soul—to that deep sense of peace that can only derive from an intimate knowing of inner truth and acceptance—the better off everyone will be.

I’ve always wanted to make a difference in someone’s life. I somehow knew that that was my legacy for the world (which sounds grandiose now that I’ve written it out).

I want to contribute to the world in my own way that brings peace to the planet. I am not an activist, for more reasons than I consciously know. But the one that always comes to the surface is that being a highly sensitive person, and empathic, despite my positivity, makes it hard for me to be loud and upfront with my convictions. I get choked by my overwhelming emotions when I try to convince a section of the population to change their ways and help or even just understand another portion of the population.

For instance, if I had a different make up, I would be at the forefront of activism and advocacy for trans rights, for ending cruelty to animals, for maintaining dignity in the homeless, and for equality for the BIPOC community.

But I get too sad to do any meaningful work in those arenas.

So this is my way of making a difference. To quietly help a writer find peace within, so they can find that book inside them and share it with the world.

Peace and Namaste.

Thank you for reading and allowing me to share my heart and mission with you.

I've been working in this field, helping authors, for seventeen years. My favorite thing to do for writers is a story analysis, and I love coaching. I run a small writing retreat every summer in Oregon, and I podcast with author Erick Mertz on the Writer Craft Podcast.

I first bought a lot of land in a Costa Rican jungle eco-village with my then-husband sixteen years ago for Reasons--some of which no longer apply. As a harried young mother, I wanted more community, companionship, and time spent together with our little family. Even more, (even sixteen years ago), (even as a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces), I felt little connection to my country of birth. Especially after watching Michael Moore's Sicko in 2007, eighteen years ago. Especially now, with the...

Dear friends and fans, I've been absent for two years. Much has happened, and not all of it ...comfortable. (I was going to say "good." Not all of it was good. But I'm trying to find the good in everything these days.) This will take a couple of minutes to read, but I hope you will. It would mean a lot to me. On the cusp of publishing my last book (March 2023), I quit my job at the bookstore to write full time and edit manuscripts for clients. The change in jobs, the hard push of publication...
